Compact Fork Trucks Ltd, the West Midlands regional distributor for Hyundai fork lift trucks, has completed the first UK order and delivery of four Hyundai 30D-9 counterbalance fork lift trucks to local steel stockholder and supplier Steelco (UK) Ltd.

The Dudley-based supplier delivered the four Hyundai machines in mid-September, building on its strong, long-term relationship with Steelco.

Greg Silvers, sales executive at Compact, explained: “We have serviced and maintained Steelco’s fleet of four trucks for the past few years. The previous trucks were reaching the end of their useful life and Steelco wanted to replace these with a new and reliable fleet. It was important to Steelco that their chosen supplier was both local and reliable. “Our strong relationship and consistent performance over the past two years really helped us to secure the deal, as Steelco felt confident that we could support them.”

Released in early 2015, the Hyundai 30D-9 3.0 tonne diesel counterbalance fork lift truck is described as environmentally-friendly, efficient, safe and ergonomic. The forklifts were the first trucks that Steelco has purchased from Compact, and were recommended as a reliable choice by the distributor.

Earlier this year, Keith Brazil, general manager at Steelco, visited Hyundai Heavy Industries in Belgium accompanied by Compact’s Silvers. Silvers was keen to demonstrate the manufacturing, servicing and aftercare that Steelco could expect, and a service agreement was signed. “This will ensure that we can provide any necessary maintenance and servicing of the trucks for Steelco,” explained Silvers. During the factory visit, Brazil was particularly impressed by the safety features, and was “sold on the trucks as a product.” The new Hyundai machines will help increase productivity at the steel stockholder, which is a fast-moving company requiring efficient and reliable equipment and servicing from a quality local supplier such as Compact.

“We chose the new and innovative Hyundai trucks as they are well-built, finished to a high standard and have excellent efficient engines with lower engine emissions,” said Brazil. “The added safety features were a key factor for us. These ensure that the trucks can’t be overloaded or tilted over, and each machine has an audible warning signal which our 10-year old trucks didn’t have. “As we had a strong relationship with Steelco, the order was placed very quickly. The delivery of the trucks went smoothly within the agreed timeframes, and drivers at Steelco have been very happy with the new Hyundai machines. On behalf of Compact, we hope that the trucks exceed the expectations of Steelco and look forward to building our partnership further.”

The steel supplier is impressed with both the new trucks, as well as the high level of service and expertise that Compact will continue to provide. Brazil is keen to continue working with Compact in the future for all Steelco’s servicing and maintenance needs: “Our experience of working with Compact has been an extremely positive one. The competitive prices offered by Compact combined with the market leading service and excellent mechanical support we have come to expect made Compact the obvious supplier of choice for us. We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Compact to others and look forward to working with them further.”

Steelco is an established business set up by Brazil in 1989 on behalf of its owners. It supplies sheet steel to around 160 customers per month, with a turnover of around £22m per year. It will use the new fork lift trucks to unload steel from vehicles onto the processing lines. Since its formation 14 years ago, Compact Fork Trucks has grown from strength to strength.

Compact was founded by two former senior management team members of a major fork lift truck manufacturer. Compact is a key member of the successful Hyundai dealer network. Operations manager Paul Buckoke is impressed with the whole business ethos of Compact: “Everything they do is done in a professional manner with customer care and satisfaction paramount throughout their operation. Furthermore Compact never stand still, they are always looking at ways to improve the service they offer their ever expanding customer base.” Compact supplies a full range of electric and engine-powered counterbalance and warehouse equipment. It also provides bespoke sales, service, refurbishment, hire and access platform solutions to the local business community.
